Understand your skin before you treat it.

The skin consultation is a focused assessment of your skin and your current routine. We examine your skin under bright, even light, and we assess skin type, hydration, congestion, sensitivity and skin-barrier condition. You leave with a clear plan. We do not sell products, and we do not recommend a treatment before we assess your skin.

What Happens

Examination first, then a plan.

The appointment is 30–45 minutes. It usually includes:

  • Examination of your skin under bright, even light
  • Assessment of skin type, hydration, congestion, sensitivity and skin-barrier condition
  • A review of your current products, one by one
  • An explanation of your skin's condition in plain language
  • Visia complexion analysis, when it will change our recommendation
  • A plan: which products to keep, which to stop, and the order to apply them
  • The treatments that can help your skin — and the treatments that cannot
  • A realistic timeline, not a promise

Bring your products with you, or bring photos of them. Most routines we see are not wrong. They have too many products. Often the fastest improvement is to remove a product, not to add one. We are open by appointment only, Wednesday to Saturday — hours, parking and directions.

Visia Skin Analysis

Imaging that shows what the eye can't.

Visia is a complexion-analysis system. It photographs your skin under controlled standard, UV and cross-polarised light. These views show sun damage, pigmentation and vascular conditions below the surface. Visia is most useful to track change across months — progress that is real, but too gradual to see in a mirror. We add it to a consultation when it will change our recommendation, and we skip it when it will not.

Most plans begin with a Signature Facial to establish a baseline. Some concerns sit deeper than a facial can reach: skin texture, acne scarring, and loss of firmness. For these, we recommend the correct targeted treatment and explain why. RF microneedling always starts with this consultation, because we must assess suitability before you book it. If you book a treatment after your consultation, we subtract the $50 from its price.

Should I book a consultation or a facial?

Book a consultation if your question is about your routine, your products, or which treatment suits you. Book a Signature Facial if you also want your skin treated on the day — it is $89 on a first visit and includes the same assessment. If you are not sure, the consultation is the cheaper way to find out.

Will I be pressured to buy products or book a course?

No. The consultation is for assessment and planning only. We do not perform a treatment, we do not require you to buy products, and we do not ask you to commit to a course of treatments. If your current routine works, we tell you that.

How much is a skin consultation in Waterdown?

A skin consultation at Sunwaves Facial Studio in Waterdown, Ontario is $50 and takes 30 to 45 minutes — and if you book a treatment afterwards, the $50 is subtracted from that treatment's price. We examine your skin under bright, even light, assess skin type, hydration, congestion, sensitivity and barrier condition, and review your current products one by one, with Visia complexion analysis when it will change our recommendation.
